Tigers Lose, Everything Sucks

Here’s the short version of the Tigers’ 8-1 loss to Seattle, consigning them to yet another series defeat and knocking them back out of a playoff spot for the time being:

  • Didn’t hit. Chris Young has flummoxed a number of teams with his mid-80s fastball, and the Tigers were no different. The at bats were poor and they were held scoreless until the 8th, by which point Young was out of the game.
  • Didn’t pitch. Robbie Ray was ineffective, falling behind 2-0 in the first inning and never really recovering. He gave up four runs (three earned) in five innings. Jim Johnson made his Tigers debut and gave up some hard hit balls. Johnson and Phil Coke both gave up runs, but mostly unearned, which leads us to….
  • Didn’t play defense. Of the eight runs the Mariners scored, only four of them counted as earned as the Tigers made three errors, including a dropped fly ball by Rajai Davis. It was another cavalcade of avoidable physical and mental mistakes. At some point, you have to start to question why this continues to happen.

The Tigers get a desperately needed day off before a trip to Tampa Bay for three starting on Tuesday.
