Well, the Tigers can never make it easy on us. After the Tigers led 7-0 I thought they might be able to coast to victory. No! Not today. Anibal Sanchez was awesome through 4 but ran into trouble in the 5th, giving up 3, followed by 1 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th. If you do the math you will see what was once a 7 run lead evaporated to just 2.
With the tying runners on base, Brad Ausmus (finally) made the call to the pen to bring in Joba Chamberlain. Joba threw exactly one pitch and got out of the jam. twitter was NOT a fan of him batting in the 8th though, even though a pinch hitter or double switch would have meant a new pitcher rather than the Tigers best bullpen asset.
It ended up not mattering as the Tigers plated 4 runs in the 8th inning, thanks in part to a Miguel Cabrera home run that made a very audible DING when it hit the LF foul pole.
Joba ended up not even pitching the 8th or 9th though due to the added cushion (why not save him for the series against the Angels – sound logic by Ausmus). Blaine Hardy threw two scoreless innings and the Tigers held on to win the yo-yo game 11-5.
