Game 10: Tigers (6-3) @ Padres (4-7), 4:10 PM ET

Bleary eyed Detroit fans are looking forward to a west coast game that should end well before the witching hour, as Max Scherzer and his 1.20 ERA look to deliver a series win over the Padres, with the Tigers offense hopefully treating the 2013 AL Cy Young kinder than it has thus far. The bats came alive last night in San Diego to the tune of 6 runs, with most of the home crowd abandoning their Fathers after Austin Jackson’s two-run double in the top of the 9th took it from 4-2 to 6-2, Tigers. Jackson is now hitting .314 on the year, with a slugging percentage of .571 that has him tied (early, I know) with Jose Bautista for 8th in the AL. Nice to see that lower batting slot and Wally Joyner’s paying dividends. It would also be nice to see Miguel Cabrera build on some solid opposite field contact from last night (plus a hard-hit RBI double) and find a way out of a mini-slump that has him 2-16 on this Cali jaunt. Cabrera has only 4 career appearances against Padres starter Tyson Ross, going 1-3 with a BB and 2 strike outs but Ross has struggled against Detroit, with a 7.50 ERA in 3 games against. Last but not least, we’ll see VMart behind the plate tonight, which carries both good and bad news. The good – Avila has looked quite lost with a bat in his hands so far and we can unfilter the word “nepotism” from twitter for a few hours. The bad – if Victor looks like he did against the Dodgers defensively at catcher, there could be a few more free bases for the Padres than we’d like to see.
