The Tigers no longer need the Indians’ opponent to help them out if they want to clinch the division. It’s all in their hands tonight – one win and it’s over. So don’t worry about that scoreboard watching! Dylan Axelrod is pitching for Chicago anyway. You probably don’t want to. The lineups:
Tigers (M. Scherzer – R)
The Tigers badly need a lengthy outing from Max Scherzer tonight. Al Alburquerque is unavailable, Joaquin Benoit probably is sidelined as well, and Bruce Rondon’s elbow flared up after last night and he won’t pitch either. Add that to Phil Coke and the Tigers have four relievers unavailable tonight, including their closer, so innings from Scherzer are imperative.
Jose Iglesias is still missing but the hope is that he will be able to play Friday in Miami.
Also, if the Tigers win tonight, not only will they clinch their third straight division title, but Jim Leyland will pick up his 700th victory as Tigers manager. Not that he much cares, I suppose.
