Game 42: Tigers (23-18) @ Rangers (28-15), 8:05 PM

Detroit Tigers v Texas RangersThe Tigers wrap up their 4-game set in Arlington tonight on ESPN. Doug Fister takes the mound for the Tigers. He’s coming off a win against the Houston Astros in which he gave up two runs in seven innings while striking out seven (and no hit batters, which is a rarity so far this season). He’s made seven starts in his career against the Rangers, and he is 2-4 with a 5.61 ERA. His lone start against them in 2012 was probably the worst of the lot. He only lasted 4.1 innings and gave up 9 runs (8 earned), including three home runs. David Murphy owns him. He’s 8-for-18 with a whopping four home runs off Fister. Nelson Cruz, Adrian Beltre, and Ian Kinsler are all also hitting over .300 against him (though Kinsler was just placed on the DL earlier today and Jurickson Profar was called up). On the other hand, Mitch Moreland is only 1-for-11 and Elvis Andrus is only 4-for-25.

The Rangers will start lefty Derek Holland, the pride of Newark, Ohio (I only mention that because I went to college in Granville, which is right outside Newark, so I have some familiarity with the area). He’s pitched well for them so far this season, although his last start was not quite as stellar. He gave up four runs to the A’s in 5.2 innings. He’s only made two starts against the Tigers in his career and doesn’t have a decision, but his ERA is 1.54. Most of the Tigers don’t have a lot of history against him, with the exception of Torii Hunter, who saw him plenty while he was with the Angels. And he’s done pretty well, 10-for-34 with two home runs. Cabrera, Peralta, Martinez, and Peña have also all homered against him in the past (Cabrera’s only hitting .222 against him overall; the others are all at .333 or better, though).
