Game 104: Tigers (54-49) @ Red Sox (52-51)

The MLB Trade Deadline came and went with the Tigers not making any additional changes to their roster. This could mean a few different things: (1) they’re content with what they have (unlikely); (2) they’re hoping what they do have figures it out (likely); or (3) they figure they can get what they need before the end of August (likeliest, especially if hope fails).

Whatever the case may be, an otherwise uneventful Justin Verlander Day soldiers on.

Lineups for tonight’s game at Fenway after the jump.

Tigers (J. Verlander – R)

Red Sox (J. Beckett – R)

Justin Verlander struggled his last time out at Fenway, during which the Red Sox banged out 10 hits, the only team to do that against the reigning MVP this season. Verlander has pretty good numbers at Fenway overall and he’ll be looking to exorcise those May 29 demons tonight.

Josh Beckett has been as sloppy as his gut and facial hair against the Tigers this season (11.2 IP, 11 ER) and was probably beside himself (and a bucket of wings) up until the deadline, wondering if he was going to get traded. Nope, he’ll still have to face the Tigers’ lineup tonight, which has been bad on the current road trip (save for Austin Jackson and Quintin Berry). Beckett might be just what the Tigers’ O needs.
