David Price vs. Justin Verlander. The hitters who will have to deal with such problems are beneath the cut.
As you might imagine, neither lineup has done particularly well against the pitcher they’re facing tonight – the Tigers have had precious little success against Price, but the Rays have done slightly better against Verlander, with B.J. Upton a career 8-for-18 and Luke Scott and Hideki Matsui having had success as well (of course, that was a very different Hideki Matsui, plus he’s not in the lineup anyway). The Tigers have now won 10 of their last 12 against the Rays after last night.
The Tigers have won 10 of 12 against the Rays dating back to August 2010.
Finally, Will Rhymes faces the Tigers for the first time since they released him last winter. Sadly, he has not tweeted about it.
