Thanksgiving Eve (November 24th) at midnight was the deadline for all clubs to announce their arbitration offers to qualifying members of the team. 29 teams faxed their orders in to the league office on time, at least 29 we were told of. No one knows of the Tigers status with players such as Magglio Ordonez and Wilson Betemit as of now, over 24 hours after the deadline.
Now, none of this is extremely important news, however, there is a contingent fan base out there that sit around on a Black Friday wondering what a platoon of Brandon Inge and Don Kelly would mean to the 2012 Tigers season rather than fighting like idiots over $2 Waffle Irons or Pepper Spraying 10 people to get to an Xbox 360.
Of course, by that thought process, Wilson Betemit at 3rd base over an entire season is just as scary a thought as a platoon of Inge/Kelly. He’s never been an everyday player, so it would probably be a platoon of Inge/Betemit, more than anything if arbitration IS offered to Betemit at this point.
The decision over 3B also could ride on the the workout of Cuban All-Star talent, Yoenis Cespedes, who is scheduled to work out with the Tigers in the near future, according to John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press.
However, until the announcement is made of which decision the Tigers are going, we are going to keep watching the video of the $2 Waffle Irons instead.
