Some Saturday’s are nonstop for me, others are completely boring. Today was one of those boring days and thanks to Baseball Prospectus’ Compensation Page I took some time looking over last year’s payroll of all 30 teams, then at the average dollar they spent on each player.
The Tigers finished 4th overall in the league and ranked 10th in average payroll spent per player. The 8 playoff teams finished 1st (NYY), 2nd (PHI), 10th (DET), 11 (STL), 16th (TEX), 18th (MIL), 25th (ARI), 27th (TAM).
