With an 0-2 count and a runner on 2nd base, everyone in Boston thought that Mike Aviles had struck out on this play. Well, everyone besides 1st base umpire Bill Welke, that is. Welke, who did this (EDIT: or not, but whatever) a couple weeks ago, ruled that the ball hit the ground. The Red Sox went on to score 3 runs before the Tigers could record the final out of the inning.

As you might expect, Mount Leyland erupted shortly afterward.
