On the twitter this morning, Tiger fan @casey04 made this statement regarding Prince Fielder’s power outage, in which he has two doubles and two home runs through his first 21 games as a Detroit Tiger.
Remember when Cabrera had trouble switching leagues? Neither do I… #BestPlayerInGame

Well, let’s take a look.
Miguel Cabrera: First 21 games of 2008
| GMS | PA | R | 2B | HR | RBI | BB | SO | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 21 | 92 | 14 | 5 | 5 | 18 | 11 | 15 | .263 | .344 | .513 | .857 |
Prince Fielder: First 20 games of 2012
| GMS | PA | R | 2B | HR | RBI | BB | SO | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 21 | 89 | 12 | 2 | 2 | 10 | 10 | 14 | .312 | .393 | .416 | .809 |
Sure, Cabrera didn’t experience a drop in extra base power like Fielder is seeing, but I argue that three weeks is a very small sample size, the league is a lot different than it was in 2008, and it’s not like Fielder is hitting .200.
I don’t know about you…I’m not complaining about either one, although it would be nice to see Fielder take CC Sabathia deep at some point today.
Speaking of which, according to ESPN, when Fielder steps to the plate today there will be a total of 565 lbs playing 60 feet 6 inches away from another.
