While the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics opened the season last week in Japan, that apparently didn’t count tonight is opening night and tomorrow is opening day (and for that, so is Friday). Regardless, the first pitch to be thrown in North America is one hour away and therefore the staff at Walkoff Woodward will reluctantly release their ultimate predictions for the 2012 season.

*Wild Card Teams
Every one of us trusts Philadelphia to win the NL East, even with the injury and age concerns. Grey and myself believe Atlanta is good enough to make the playoffs while Packey and Erin buy into the Miami heat hype. Shockingly, we all felt that Washington is still not a playoff contender, and New York is simply a joke.
The Reds and their new Mega Millions winner, Joey Votto, are a pretty popular pick amongst us, as Erin is the only one who doesn’t chose them for the division winner. Packey has the Brewers in as a Wild Card, so according to our collective crystal ball, the St. Louis Cardinals aren’t going to have a chance to defend their World Series title. Poor Houston. They should move to the AL West or something.
The greatest discourse is found in the NL West as San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Arizona are all division winners, and Arizona picks up a Wild Card birth thanks to Erin.

*Wild Card Teams
Just like the NL East, we all feel the AL East division title comes from one team, and that’s the New York Yankees. We all feel the beasts from the east have at least one Wild Card winner, and I actually have two.
We are all homers, horrible horrible Prince Semien Fielder homers. How dare we all pick the Tigers to win the central and have no Wild Card winner come from the Royals or Indians. Oh, and there’s some serious Twins hate here. It’s well deserved.
The AL West is obviously a two team competition and I am the only one who doesn’t have both teams moving onto the playoffs as I give no respect to the two time World Series loser Texas Rangers.

There’s a wide gap here as we all have different pennant winners, save for Packey and Erin who both like the Phillies to attempt to return to their 2008 form. However, what’s with the Tiger hate, guys?

Looks like we all have different winners of the major awards, and Grey apparently hates Miguel Cabrera. What a jerk. Of course, all of us except for him hate Justin Verlander now.
